Ward Village

Over 80 civic groups and citizens addressed the Hawaiian Community Development Authority (HCDA) in support of the successful Ward Neighborhood zoning application. HCDA approved the plans for 4,300 new homes and millions of square feet of shops, restaurants and offices on 62 acres of downtown Honolulu in January 2009. Tom D’Alesandro oversaw the envisaging of an elegant mixed use district organized along a revitalized Auahi Street. The plan opens up Auahi Street and a Central Plaza to dramatic views of Mauka (Mountain) – Makai (Ocean), reflecting local community arts and civic leader’s contributions to the plans.
